Frequency of micturition


The normal bladder capacity is 300-400 ml which is the amount of urine passed each time. It normally occurs 4-5 times during the day & none or once during the night.


An increase in the number of voids per day (>5 times) not accompanied by an increase in total volume of urine per day above 2500ml. If accompanied by increased total volume of urine > 2500ml then this is polyuria.

1. Bladder irritation

  • Cystitis
  • Bladder stones
  • Foreign body

2. Reduced bladder capacity

  • SEP
  • Pregnancy
  • Pelvic tumors

3. Neuro-psychiatric disturbance
